Search Engine optimization is the process of making specific modifications to a website in an attempt to influence Search Engine ranking in a positive way.  Search Engine Optimization is more of an art than a science. This is due to the fact that each Search Engine uses it's own proprietary criteria to rank websites and they change their formula on a regular basis. For example, you may find your website ranked #1 on Yahoo and on the third page of Google for exactly the same search phrase.

Search engines were developed to locate text content relative to the subject searched.  The idea of exchanging graphics, photos, video or sound clips on the Internet is a recent development.  A website without text content containing only graphics, Flash movies, video or sound is virtually invisible to a Search Engine.  For this reason, relevant text content is of paramount importance if you wish to rank high on a Search Engine. In addition, your content needs to be organized in a way that is easy for Search Engines to find and index.

The majority of websites currently on the web are lacking some or all of the components required to be ranked high by a Search Engine.  Many customers think a poorly designed website can be optimized into a high ranking.  The truth is, a website designed to consistently rank high on Internet Search Engines needs to be constructed to do so from conception.  Sadly, there is no "Magic Dust" or "Secret Process" that will make a badly designed website rank high and stay there.
